Come and join us online for the next in our Climate Action North Spring series of Book Wilding events.

We are delighted to welcome Ajay Tegala, author of Wetland Diaries, Ranger Life and Rewilding on Wicken Fen, who will be talking about his book, telling us the story behind it and also reading from the book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ajay Tegala shares his passion for the natural world through his work as a wildlife presenter. His television credits include BBC Springwatch and Inside the Bat Cave. As a countryside ranger, Ajay is grounded in the world of conservation. At the age of fifteen, he decided to become a conservationist after a week of volunteering with the National Trust. Ajay has worked on nature reserves for well over a decade, first on Norfolk’s Blakenev Point and then on Wicken Fen, Cambridgeshire. Ajay is passionate about protecting wildlife and engaging people with nature.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Not many have had the experience of working with herds of free-roaming horses and cattle, weathering the elements to cope creatively with the dramas of a life outdoors at the cutting edge of conservation. Wetland Diaries is an account of ranger life and wildlife in England’s flat lands, restoring a nearly lost landscape once widespread – and the spectrum of emotions experienced.

Ajay gives an authentic and personal insight into the varied lives of rangers working on Wicken Fen through the changing seasons. Delving into history and folklore, he shares the spirit and atmosphere of the East Anglian Fens. Ajay and his colleagues have looked over wildlife and livestock through extreme weather and a global pandemic. He shares the privileges and pressures of managing semi-wild animals in one of the country’s very first wetland restoration projects, mitigating climate change and creating precious breathing space for nature and people alike.

DRAKE THE BOOKSHOP is an independent book seller based in Stockton and are described by many as “The most magical little bookshop . . . a little piece of heaven in what can be a crazy world.” As our sponsor we are delighted to welcome Drake The Bookshop to this event and there is an opportunity to purchase a copy of the book via the link below:-
